Was Flame virus that invaded Iran's computer networks made in USA?

By Robert WindremNBC News

As the United Nations and Iran warn that the newly discovered Flame computer virus may be the most potent weapon of its kind, U.S. computer security experts tell NBC News that the virus bears the hallmarks of a U.S. cyber espionage operation, specifically that of the super-secret National Security Agency.

The Flame virus, which is intended to gather intelligence -- not destroy equipment or data, as was the case with the notorious Stuxnet virus -- is too sophisticated to be the work of another country, said one U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity. ?It was U.S.,? said the official, who acknowledged having no first-hand knowledge of how the virus operates or was introduced into the Iranian computers.

The U.S. was also believed to have a hand in the creation and insertion of the Stuxnet virus, which targeted Iran?s uranium-enriching centrifuges.

The newly discovered Flame virus essentially ?colonizes? the targeted computers, giving hackers control over critical data stored on them, according to cybersecurity experts who spoke with NBC News.

?

U.S. intelligence officials declined to discuss the virus. ?We have no comment,? said one. ?Israeli officials, suspected in previous attacks, denied involvement.

The virus was first discovered and announced over the weekend by a Russian cybersecurity organization after reports of massive data losses in Iranian government computers.? Kaspersky Lab told Reuters it found the Flame infection after the International Telecommunications Union asked it to investigate. By some accounts, the virus has been operating in the wild for as long as five years.

"This is the most serious (cyber) warning we have ever put out," Marco Obiso, cybersecurity coordinator for the U.N.'s Geneva-based ITU, told Reuters on Tuesday, referring to a bulletin about the virus expected to be issued in the next few days.

The confidential warning will tell member nations that the Flame virus is a dangerous espionage tool that could potentially be used to attack critical infrastructure, Obiso said.

Other experts said the virus appears to be a different type of invader than Stuxnet.

"From reading press reports, this appears to be penetrating networks to surveil, as opposed to destroy, as was the case with Stuxnet,? said Michael Leiter, former director of the National Counter Terrorism Center and now an NBC News analyst. ?Such computer network operations are core components of what our and other intelligence services do day in and day out.

?Our intelligence services know that any weakness in an information system can mean the entire system is vulnerable. ?This makes defense very, very hard.? Network defenses must work reliably and in real time across the entire network to defend against persistent intruders."

Iran?s cybersecurity officials seem to agree.? The New York Times reported Iran?s Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center issued a warning Tuesday, saying, ?This malware is a platform which is capable of receiving and installing various modules for different goals.?

If this is indeed a U.S. cyberwarfare operation, said computer security expert Roger Cressey, the target is likely to be Iran?s nuclear program and its decision-making apparatus.?

"Whoever has developed this is engaged in very sophisticated intelligence gathering on computer networks throughout the region.? Clearly, Iran is a top priority for this program," said Cressey, former chief of staff of ?the President?s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board under George W. Bush and now an NBC News analyst.

Two years ago, the U.S. and Israel were suspected of inserting the Stuxnet virus into the Iranian centrifuge center at Natanz.?When the control software was corrupted, the motors that control the uranium centrifuge operations didn?t operate correctly, wobbling instead of spinning the way they?re supposed to, U.S. officials say.

Iran?s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the work of Kaspersky Labs helped Iran uncover the infection and remove it from the centrifuge control program.? Cybersecurity officials have told NBC News that the infection, while heavily publicized, was not as effective in disrupting Iran?s nuclear program as has been portrayed in some media accounts.

But Stuxnet is an example, said one U.S. official, of how those aiming to slow the Iranian nuclear program, which the U.S. says is aimed at producing nuclear weaponry, can have an effect similar to that of economic sanctions. The Iran program keeps making progress, he said, but never quite gets there.

Other U.S. officials said that the viruses not only affect the targeted program; they also make Iranian officials ?paranoid.? Additionally, countering the attacks diverts valuable assets and resources from the core mission, they said.?

While the Flame virus appears to be aimed more at gathering intelligence on the Iranian program, it, too, aims to make the Iranians paranoid, the officials said. It does so?by making them wonder about security and by raising questions about whether ?the enemy knows the intricacies of Iranian decision making, not just on the nuclear program but on a host of other issues important to the U.S. and the West, they said.

Robert Windrem is a senior investigative producer for NBC News; Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel contributed to this report.

Causes ringing in the ears and dizziness | Bodybuilding ...

If you experience dizziness and ringing in the ears, you could be suffering from a problem in your inner ear. Vestibular labyrinth, present in the inner ear, helps us maintain our balance. If there is an infection in the inner ear, this could result in dizziness.

Ringing in the ears and dizziness are often inter-related, and people who suffer from tinnitus will also experience dizziness.

?

What Causes of Ringing in the Ear and Dizziness?

?

If the ringing in the ear and dizziness is constant, you should an appointment with your ENT doctor, so that they can run necessary tests to evaluate your hearing and diagnose the reason behind your discomfort.

Some of the common reasons for experiencing dizzy spells and hearing a ringing sound in your ears are as follows:

The most common cause is an inner ear infection. Once the infection is treated with suitable medication and the ear gets better, the ringing and dizziness should slowly fade away.

Acoustic neuroma, a non-cancerous tumor, could also be the reason for dizziness and ringing in the ears. This is essentially a benign growth that is located on the acoustic nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain. Ringing in the ears and vertigo are symptoms of an acoustic neuroma. Imbalance and hearing loss are also possibilities, if you have this growth.

Meniere?s disease is another cause of dizziness and ringing in the ear. This results from a head injury or excessive build-up of fluid in the inner ear.

Vestibular migraines could also be another cause.

?

What are the Treatment Options?

?

Depending on the cause of ringing and dizziness, your doctor will prescribe a treatment plan for you. There are also many natural ringing in the ears treatment options, but make sure you consult with your physician before choosing a treatment plan.

Aromatherapy with essential oils lemon, rose, rosemary, and cypress are recommended to help with better blood circulation. Administer the oil through an aromatherapy diffuser or vaporizer. You could also get a head massage, which will make you feel better.

Alternative therapy like magnet therapy, hypnosis, acupuncture, hyperbaric oxygen, and craniosacral therapy are also being used by holistic healers to control the discomfort and pain one experiences from ringing ears.

Herbs like hawthorn, gingko biloba, melatonin and black cohosh can be used to help ease the pain.

Counseling is a good treatment option if you have been diagnosed with tinnitus, as the condition can take a lot out of you emotionally. Relaxing and going for a neck, head and chest massage, and opting for yoga, meditation or biofeedback help to reduce the pain. You could also opt for homeopathy, which has some remedies for this condition.

Sound therapy is used to distract you form hearing the ringing in the ear. Some of the sounds used are ocean waves, the wind, humming, rainfall, or chants.

If you still don?t feel relief after all this, see your doctor who will look at your condition and treat you or propose techniques that will help you cope better with dizziness and ear ringing.

vertebrate ogre: Arts & Entertainment: How changes in animation ...

Animation has been one of the most important developments in the entertainment industry as it has given animators the ability to bring almost anything to life. Using different techniques of animations the animators can make simple inanimate objects, drawings and photographs appear like movement is occurring and with technological advances it has become more and more convincing too. These advances have also required animators to change what they do in their job.

When wide scale animation first started the animators would have to draw each image in the sequence and trace them to alter small details. This was the only way to get consistency in the images and create the illusion of small movements but it was extremely long and complicated. Each of the images also had to be traced again on to acetate so that it could be coloured and this was only a very small part of the process. Today's methods are much faster but animators now need excellent computer skills.

Computers have become an essential part of animation today and so animators all know how to use various computer programmes specifically designed for creating animations. Stop motion animation was used to create videos in 3D when animators would create things out of clay. This allowed them to move parts of the models by tiny amounts to make the movements on screen seem very smooth. All of this can now be done by computer and clay models are no longer used by animators in higher budget productions.

Initially animators started using computers to create 2D animations but because audiences already had 3D animation this didn't last long. More elaborate and capable computer programmes were quickly developed so that animators could create some of the best 3D animations to date.

Today 3D animation has become common and has completely revolutionised the film industry. Animators create things on computer programmes and then move them far more easily than ever before. The details are much more intricate than ever before as animators can now move strands of hair individually to react to things like artificial wind. This makes the animations more real than ever.

Small Businesses Hire When Their Revenues Rise

In the discussion of why small businesses are not creating as many jobs in the current recovery as they have in past economic expansions, one simple fact has been missed by many observers: small businesses create jobs when they need more employees. And companies need more employees when they sell more products and services.

Data from the recent Wells Fargo Small Business Survey, a quarterly survey of small businesses with no more than $20 million in annual sales, illustrates this pattern clearly. Since Wells Fargo began collecting their data quarterly in the second three months of 2007, the correlation between the percentage of owners who indicated that their business?s revenue increased over the previous 12 months and the percentage who indicated that their business?s employment went up over the same period, has been 0.9. (A correlation of 1.0 means that two numbers move together perfectly, while a correlation of 0.0 means that there is no relationship in the movement of the two numbers.)

While fewer small companies decrease employment than suffer revenue declines and fewer small businesses increase employment than experience revenue increases, the two numbers clearly move in concert. Therefore, if we want small businesses to hire more, we need to help them boost their revenues.

Share of Small Businesses with Rising Revenue and Employment:

Best iPhone gaming apps: casual - Pocket-lint

Sometimes the best kind of apps are the ones you can just pick up and play. Instantaneous fun for the train, bus or any other boring situation, they are ideal time fillers to pull out of your pocket.

Consider these guys the iPhone classics - easy to play, hard to master and just as much fun whether being picked at for five minutes tor for over an hour. The other great thing is, they're usually cheap.?

Oh! Edo Towns

We are big fans of Kairosoft over at Pocket-lint, its uber-addictive formula of retro gameplay and graphics has had us wile away many an hour on one of its numerous apps.?Oh! Edo Towns puts you in charge of building villages in Japan. Think of it like a simplified version of Sim City, without all the complex building zone laying. You start off with a small plot of land and only a few residents to manage. Build on vacant lots and wait until people start arriving, from then on the game begins to get seriously fun.

Once you have a decent little collection of chappies enjoying the delights of your simple yet likely barren village, you're going to want to start building fields, shops and all other types of entertainments for your citizens. The usual emphasis on upgrading and researching is there, as in all Kairosoft titles.?You can boot straight into the gameplay, provided the app hasn't been killed, and it saves ands load very quickly. This makes it the perfect title to pick at while on the train and well worth the ?2.49 asking price. Read More

Anthill: Tactical Trail Defense

This little gem combines real-time strategy and tower defence, merging the two, admittedly very similar genres, into one - and creating an excellent game in the process.?The plot is straightforward enough: you take control of a variety of friendly formicidae which all work together to gather food and destroy enemy bugs so that your anthill might be preserved. There are workers who collect the food, an army variety that gets stuck in hand-to-hand, and flying ants that bombard the opposition with green goo, among others.

Anthill iPhone app

As ever, it's a case of balancing the different varieties at your disposal; creating workers to forage for food and combat troops to defend them, if you're going to be successful. You can determine where each type of ant goes by creating a line on the screen which they'll follow to a target - the whole system working very well.?Where the real beauty lies is in the gameplay. Things can look pretty hectic at times, but because of the intuitive interface everything remains under your control. For a game that, somehow, feels quite fresh on the iOS platform, we have to say that it's a bargain. Read More

The Nightjar

The Nightjar is a space adventure in which you play the last crew member of a spacecraft about to spiral into a black hole. As black holes and spacecraft (and pretty much anything for that matter) don't tend to mix, the aim of the game is to get the hell out of Dodge.

The storyline is all pretty straightforward sci-fi, but it's in the gameplay that things start to get interesting. Immersed in total darkness, it is by use of sound cues that you have to navigate your way off the doomed ship.?You also have a guide at hand in the form of Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who gives you hints on the task at hand.

This is a genuinely unnerving game, which increases the tension with subtle suggestions of other lifeforms on the ship - whether it's the gruesome chomping of a nearby lifeform dining on a fallen shipmate or the computer announcing that a party of complex lifeforms has just boarded: "one of which is human".?The game is brief but while it lasts every step and sound oozes quality; and the fact that it's a free download means that if you have the iDevice on hand it's a must. Cut the Rope: Experiments

Like the original Cut The Rope game, this involves getting as many sweets as possible into the mouth of your Om Nom. Rope-cutting is of course also central to the premise of the application, though there are now plenty more special items thrown into the mix to make feeding your Om Nom harder.

Things like the rope gun and suction cup holder now mean you can take more direct control over the path of your sweet. This doesn't mean things are any easier than they were. In fact all this new controllery makes the game a little bit tougher, which we definitely like. Read More

Temple Run

There's no great complexity to Temple Run, but it's within its simple gameplay that its genius lies. Its simple, twisted, evil genius - even more evil and tortured than the monster-monkeys that chase you throughout the entire experience.

For you see, as with any successful casual mobile game, the power of Temple Run is its addictiveness. The "one more go" lure that will see evenings, days and weeks lost, blurred into a hazy nightmare involving hollow trees, gold coins and, weirdly, an American footballer.

The premise is straightforward: your character (there are several protagonists who you can unlock) has escaped from a temple (hence the name) and is being chased incessantly by the aforementioned monster-monkeys.

You're not sure why you're running but run you shall. Run, turn, jump and slide. That's it. Avoid the trees, don't fall off the track and make sure you collect as many coins as you can along the way - presumably whatever your character has made off from the temple isn't enough for him or her.

Flick Kick Football

There is one football app that, regardless of whether you follow the beautiful game, you'll be glued to as if it's Match of the Day and you don't know the result. The premise is simple. You've got to score as many goals as possible to carry on playing. Shooting at certain areas classed as the Skill Zone earns you lives or more time. Do well and you'll be on to a cracking score; crack under pressure and you'll be starting back from scratch.

Sounds easy, doesn't it? That is until you put moving goalies and players in the way. Then you've got the varying distances to cope with and the ability to curve the ball like you're David Beckham. Ten minutes in and like Paper Toss you'll find you're addicted. With smart graphics, some great nail-biting camera replays and gameplay that you'll enjoy and be infuriated by, this app is a winner. Whale Trail

This highly stylised and polished game has clearly been influenced by previous successful iPhone games, such as Tiny Wings. This is not to say that it's not original - there are plenty of innovative ideas - but the simple gameplay, controls and sound are nothing if not reminiscent.

Whale Trail

Game mechanics are simplicity itself: pressing and holding anywhere on the screen makes the whale rise, while releasing brings about a swooping action - the aim being to collect bubbles to fuel your flight.

As you move on through the levels, bubbles become more scarce and your flying skills will need to improve. Nice elements include frenzy mode which makes your whale invincible, enabling you to smash through the dark clouds - these suck away your bubble fuel in order to curtail your flight - and high-speed boosts that enable you to go where no whale has gone before.

Cardinal among plotters in Vatican scandal?

Paolo Gabriele (bottom left), the pope's butler, was arrested three days ago for allegedly feeding documents to Italian journalists.

By msnbc.com news services

VATICAN CITY --?The worst crisis in Pope Benedict's pontificate deepened on Monday when Italian media said at least one cardinal was among those suspected of leaking sensitive documents as part of a power struggle at the top of the Catholic Church.?The pope's butler, who has been arrested, has pledged to cooperate in the probe.?

Leading Italian newspapers Corriere della Sera and Il Messaggero reported Monday that the pope's butler ? arrested three days ago for allegedly feeding documents to Italian journalists ? clearly did not act alone, and that an unidentified cardinal is suspected of playing a major role.?

The scandal exploded last week when within a few days the pope's butler was arrested, the head of the Vatican's own bank was abruptly dismissed and a book was published alleging conspiracies among the cardinals or "princes of the Church."

Vatican cops arrest pope's butler over leaked papers alleging corruption

However, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, denied the reports that a cardinal might be the next target of the "Vatileaks" probe. He said many Vatican officials were being questioned but insisted: "There is no cardinal under suspicion."?

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the pope's butler says his client has pledged "full cooperation" in the investigation and wants the truth to come out.?

On his final day in Cuba, Pope Benedict noted that the Cuban government has taken steps to allow greater freedom of religion, but still has room for improvement. Vatican analyst George Weigel talks about the Pope's message and his meeting with Fidel Castro.

The commitment by butler Paolo Gabriele to cooperate raises the specter that higher-ranking prelates may soon be named in the scandal. Leaks of confidential Vatican correspondence have shed light on power struggles and intrigue inside the highest levels of the Catholic Church.?

Gabriele, the pope's personal butler since 2006, was arrested Wednesday evening after documents he had no business having were found inside his Vatican City apartment. He remains in detention in a Vatican detention facility, accused of theft, and has met with his wife and lawyers.?

The 46-year-old father of three was always considered extremely loyal to Benedict and his predecessor, John Paul II, for whom he briefly served. Vatican insiders said they were baffled by his alleged involvement. Gabriele's lawyer, Carlo Fusco, reported Monday that Gabriele was "very serene and calm."?

So far,?Gabriele?has been the only?one arrested, but Lombardi stressed that the investigation was continuing.?

Pope at Easter vigil: Technology without God is dangerous

The probe is working on two separate tracks. Vatican magistrates are pursuing the criminal investigation, and Gabriele was arrested as part of that. Separately, Pope Benedict appointed three cardinals to form an investigative commission to look beyond the narrow criminal scope of the leaks.?

Those cardinals have the authority to interview broadly across the Vatican bureaucracy, Lombardi said, and can both share information with Vatican prosecutors and receive information from them.?

The Catholic Church accused the nation's largest organization of American nuns of espousing "radical feminist" ideas. MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell discusses the charges with Sister Jeannine Gramick, who was once silenced by the Vatican, and Jeff Stone, communications director of Dignity USA.

They report directly to the pope, who Lombardi said, was being kept informed of the investigation.?

Like a Dan Brown book? Vatican allows mobster to be exhumed

Benedict has not commented directly on the scandal.?

Meanwhile, hundreds of demonstrators marched to St. Peter's Square on Sunday to demand information on Emanuela Orlandi, the daughter of a Vatican messenger who disappeared in 1983 at the age of 15.?

Various theories have surrounded her disappearance, linking her kidnapping to an attempt to free the Turkish gunman who shot John Paul in 1981, or to alleged Vatican financial dealings with a Rome criminal gang.?

The march came a day after an Italian prosecutor told CNN that a priest who used to run a church in Rome is under investigation on suspicion of complicity in her?abduction.

Church groups: Keep 'Father,' 'Son' in Bible

Two church denominations have rejected the practice of using words other than ?Father? and ?Son? when translating the Bible into languages in Muslim-dominated parts of the globe.

That?s according to a new report from Biblical Missiology, which has been raising the issue because of translations by the missionary groups Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Summer Institute of Linguistics and Frontiers that remove or modify terms that may be offensive to Muslims.

The translations have altered references to God as ?Father? and to Jesus as the ?Son? or ?the Son of God.? One example can be seen in an Arabic version of the Gospel of Matthew produced and promoted by Frontiers and SIL.

It changes Matthew 28:19 from ?baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit? to ?cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiah and his Holy Spirit.?

Biblical Missiology issued a petition stating that Wycliffe and the others ?are producing Bibles that remove Father, Son and Son of God because these terms are offensive to Muslims.?

Today, Biblical Missiology released a report that said Assemblies of God USA and Presbyterian Church of America study committees have released reports that will be used by their denominations to review the issue.

The Assemblies of God document said: ?Our fellowship is unrelentingly committed to the authority and infallibility of Scripture. While we appreciate the challenges missionaries and translators face in intercultural communication, we will neither compromise nor dilute God?s eternal truth, nor change its intended plain meaning. We, therefore, urge all believers to reject these and any other Scripture translations, whether for Muslim or non-Muslim audiences, for both public and personal use, that do not literally translate Father and Son terminology.?

Like the AOG document, the PCA study team?s recommendation refers to Biblical Missiology?s materials on the subject.

The PCA team recommends: ?Bible translations geared for Islamic contexts should not be driven by concerns that Muslims may recoil from biological terms applied to God or Jesus. That revulsion originates primarily out of religious conviction, not any communicative limitation of the terms themselves. The essentially biological terms (Hebrew, ben and ab; Greek, huios and pater) are divinely given and therefore should be translated into comparable biological terms. Footnotes, parentheticals and other paratextual comments may be used to explain the biblical and theological riches of Scripture, while never subverting the important truths embedded in the biological contours of Scripture?s words.?

The Biblical Missiology report said the PCA will discuss the study?s findings at its annual meeting in June. The Assemblies of God will postpone any decision until the end of 2012 to await a review by the World Evangelical Alliance.

Both reports, Biblicial Missiology said, ?affirm the ministries that have ?faithfully and sacrificially translated the Holy Scripture? but have reservations about current events.

Biblical Missiology reported earlier that the new translations also were being rejected by the Alliance of Protestant Churches in Turkey.

A statement from the Turkish church leaders said: ?As leaders of local Protestant churches, the misleading translations of these very important and foundational New Testament terms to be wrong and extremely adverse. We most certainly cannot approve of it.?

WND previously reported that Wycliffe Bible Translators, which says it changed some references to ?Son of God? and ?Father? in an Arabic Bible translation for accuracy, is allowing an outside review of its translations in the Muslim world.

Wycliffe agreed to a review of its policies by the World Evangelical Alliance, a network of evangelical church alliances in 128 nations, which plans to set up a panel of experts on the issue.

WND broke the story earlier about the dispute and then reported again later when Wycliffe said, through Wycliffe Global Alliance American consultant Mary Lederleitner, that the issue ?hinges on whether or not one believes that using the most common term in a receptor language in translating the familial terms for God (Father, Son of God, Son) is the only acceptable translation or whether ? in the minority of cases when the most common term conveys inaccurate meaning ? there are times when other terms (terms which maintain the concept of familial relationships but are not the most common term) can be used.?

Wycliffe has defended the changes, saying, ?The titles are not removed, but are preserved in a way that does not communicate incorrect meaning. The issue is not that the Greek term is offensive to Muslims, rather the issue is that ? unfortunately ? for some readers, traditional translations may imply that God has sex with women and give readers the impression the translation is corrupt.?

Many evangelical mission leaders, former Muslim converts and indigenous Christians from countries where the translations are being used were indignant. After numerous appeals were rejected, a petition was launched calling for the end to the translations.

Biblical Missiology said the Turkish organization of Christians was not the first to object to the translations.

?The Bengali church has taken a large stance against the Islamized translations and the Insider Movement that Islamizes the church,? the organization reported.

Malaysian Christians has also made a statement opposing the new changes.

?As a church in a Muslim majority country, we are concerned that there are currently movements to remove all reference to God as ?Father? and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ as ?Son of God? on the translation of the Holy Scripture to the local language,? said a letter from Moko Chen Liang, the general secretary of the Presbyterian Church in Malaysia, to Presbyterian leaders in the U.S.

Wall-Breaking Pod Cars - The MiniNORRIS EV is as Strong as Walker Texas Ranger (TrendHunter.com)

With name like the MiniNORRIS EV, it may be only a matter of time before designer Milos Paripovic?s ultra-strong concept car makes it to market. Paripovic is a quirky designer known for creating humorous (and fake) products. He was the man behind the iPoo, an Apple toilet and the Zugo (a 21st century version of the Yugo).

The MiniNORRIS EV was created to show people just how strong those ridiculous looking, pod-shaped EVs could be. As shown in the video, the MiniNORRIS is able to smash through a brick wall, all while seating two in total comfort and quiet. The MiniNORRIS EV may be as real as the Loch Ness Monster, but it could inspire automakers to advertise their upcoming EVs different. GM seems to be semi-serious about their EN-V concept, but its doubtful the public would take it seriously without some reassuring crash test footage.

The advantages of owning condos and lofts consist of both their desirable pricing and their fairly low upkeep specifications. When compared to detached residential housing, a condo or loft gives a lower-cost option that keeps weekends free of endless lawn mowing and home improvement projects. Furthermore, purchasers will often find a condo or a loft in a prime urban location, for simple access to the amenities of city living. Why Not Try Here

Your 1st step when searching for a loft is to secure the aid of an skilled real estate agent. You should search for somebody with a lot of information from the condo and loft marketplace who will likely be in a position to explain the total process.

Let's take, for instance, an apartment in a condominium not far from the subway, on Yonge St., and at a relatively low value. It could appear a good alternative, at first. Nevertheless, you ought to keep in mind that in real estate if some thing sounds as well excellent to be correct, it really is not great. The reason why an apartment costs so tiny in such a prestigious location is the fact that the building is very old and demands repairs. This is right away reflected in the condo fee, which can be three times greater than a fee in a new condominium. On top of that, the building may be only remotely associated to condominiums because it had no amenities present in modern day condominiums in Toronto - no pool, no health club, no area for parties, etc.

Try THIS Web-site You can choose between two sorts of condominium. Some Condos accessible are skyscrapers, very sophisticated with a private entrance to take pleasure in privacy. Moreover, you'll be able to discover condominiums simply according to your funds and your way of life. Most people search for the condominiums near their operating spot to decrease the time of travel to their work.

Occasionally you feel that the condominium you are choosing isn't appropriate for your family needs i.e. it might lack a playground, or it may not be close to any school for the kids. It's not truly a problem. Certified real estate agents are accessible to solve your minor difficulties. They would surely suggest you Condos according to your specifications. In the event you had been seeking for Condos close to a school, the agents would surely recommend you an appropriate one.

In Toronto there are a number of aspects that you require to take into account when searching for a property. Toronto is a very big city and there is certainly no one single clearly defined center, and there's no location with the most pricey or the least costly real estate. Toronto is much more like a conglomeration of such centers. The city is like a multilayered quilt consisting of hundreds of fairly huge neighborhoods. The value of each neighborhood is determined by such parameters as proximity to a certain center, convenience of public transportation, proximity to significant highways, the median earnings of families, ethnic composition of the population, and so on. As a result, each district consists of a certain type of housing, and is targeted to certain groups of people.

Toronto has indeed earned it is reputation because the top marketplace for condominiums in North America with over 260 projects planned or already beneath construction. "Deteriorating affordability levels in main Canadian centers have led to the resurrection in the condominium life-style in recent years," said Michael Polzler, executive VP of Re Max Ontario-Atlantic Canada.

A condo or loft is excellent for people who do a excellent deal of traveling. For certain professionals, like pilots or salespeople, condo ownership might be a lifesaver. Instead of spending time off mowing the lawn, trimming the trees, or cleaning the gutters, experts will spend their time off relaxing at home. The homeowner's association typically handles all typical maintenance projects, enabling busy professionals to enjoy their time off. On the one hand, living in condos and lofts indicates living in close quarters with other residents. Nonetheless, the style, location, and maintenance-free life-style associated with these living spaces tends to make condo life an attractive alternative for several property owners. Just before making a purchase, consumers must consult a real estate skilled in their location, to discuss the ins and outs from the condo industry..

Seismic hazard: Faults discovered near Lake Tahoe could generate earthquakes ranging from 6.3 to 6.9

ScienceDaily (May 24, 2012) ? Results of a new U.S. Geological Survey study conclude that faults west of Lake Tahoe, Calif., referred to as the Tahoe-Sierra frontal fault zone, pose a substantial increase in the seismic hazard assessment for the Lake Tahoe region of California and Nevada, and could potentially generate earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 6.3 to 6.9. A close association of landslide deposits and active faults also suggests that there is an earthquake-induced landslide hazard along the steep fault-formed range front west of Lake Tahoe.

Using a new high-resolution imaging technology, known as bare-earth airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), combined with field observations and modern geochronology, USGS scientists, and their colleagues from the University of Nevada, Reno; the University of California, Berkeley; and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have confirmed the existence of previously suspected faults. LiDAR imagery allows scientists to "see" through dense forest cover and recognize earthquake faults that are not detectable with conventional aerial photography.

"This study is yet one more stunning example of how the availability of LiDAR information to precisely and accurately map the shape of the solid Earth surface beneath vegetation is revolutionizing the geosciences," said USGS Director Marcia McNutt. "From investigations of geologic hazards to calculations of carbon stored in the forest canopy to simply making the most accurate maps possible, LiDAR returns its investment many times over."

Motion on the faults has offset linear moraines (the boulders, cobbles, gravel, and sand deposited by an advancing glacier) providing a record of tectonic deformation since the moraines were deposited. The authors developed new three-dimensional techniques to measure the amount of tectonic displacement of moraine crests caused by repeated earthquakes. Dating of the moraines from the last two glaciations in the Tahoe basin, around 21 thousand and 70 thousand years ago, allowed the study authors to calculate the rates of tectonic displacement.

"Although the Tahoe-Sierra frontal fault zone has long been recognized as forming the tectonic boundary between the Sierra Nevada to the west, and the Basin and Range Province to the east, its level of activity and hence seismic hazard was not fully recognized because dense vegetation obscured the surface expressions of the faults," said USGS scientist and lead author, James Howle. "Using the new LiDAR technology has improved and clarified previous field mapping, has provided visualization of the surface expressions of the faults, and has allowed for accurate measurement of the amount of motion that has occurred on the faults. The results of the study demonstrate that the Tahoe-Sierra frontal fault zone is an important seismic source for the region."
