2014 Indian Chief Priced at $18,999

As much as we love Harley-Davidson's flavor of two-wheeled thunder, we're pleased as peaches that legendary American motorcycle nameplate Indian is being resurrected by Polaris Industries, the company also responsible for the Spirit Lake, Iowa-based Victory brand. And while our previous?announcement covering Indian's 111 cubic-inch v-twin offered a few juicy technical details, here's where we drop a puzzle piece that will play a huge part in determining the revitalized brand's fate: the 2014 Indian Chief will be priced at $18,999. Incidentally, that's a smidge more than the 103 cubic-inch powered Harley Softail Deluxe (which starts at $17,399), and a tad less than the $19,899 H-D Road King Classic, which is also powered by a 103 ci twin.

Of course there's also the crucial question of sex appeal; after all, folks buy big bore cruisers more for their looks than for their mechanical underpinnings, and the teased silhouette seen here reveals predictably nostalgic lines and that familiar Indian Chief ornament sitting evocatively on the front fender.

?

Ultimately though, we won't dispatch our final verdict until we've inspected every last inch of this?resuscitated bike in broad daylight when it's unveiled at the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this August-- and of course, once we swing a leg over and see how this revitalized manufacturer compares against its 110 year-old nemesis.
