Responding to criticism that the book was intended to influence the presidential election, the former SEAL told CBS News that he wrote it to honor victims of the 9/11 terror attacks and the hundreds of people who made the raid a success.
The book, entitled ?No Easy Day,? had been scheduled for release on Sept. 11 to commemorate the attack on the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon in 2001, but it instead will be made available on Sept. 4. The book is already No. 1 in sales on Amazon.com.

I know that many of you use cell phones, BlackBerrys, the Internet and other tools of technology. You also must not talk to anyone at any time about this case or use these tools to communicate electronically with anyone about the case. This includes your family and friends. You may not communicate with anyone about the case on your cell phone, through e-mail, BlackBerry, iPhone, text messaging, or on Twitter, through any blog or website, including Facebook, Google+, My Space, LinkedIn, or YouTube. You may not use any similar technology of social media, even if I have not specifically mentioned it here.
And, the judge will add: ?"I expect you will inform me as soon as you become aware of another juror?s violation of these instructions."
That's how many?judges have learned?about?such missteps. The conference surveyed judges last fall about jurors' use of social media during trials and deliberations, and found that when "social media use was detected, it was most likely to be reported by a fellow juror."
"This social media use most often took the form of posts about the progress of the case or the juror?s service in general," according to the?study. "There were several instances of jurors attempting to contact participants in the case via social media.
Indeed. In Florida earlier this year, a 29-year-old juror who?sent a Facebook message to a defendant during a trial, then bragged on the social network about being kicked off the jury, is now himself in hot water ? and in jail for contempt of court. In Britain last year, a 40-year-old juror admitted she used Facebook to?contact?the defendant in a case because she saw "considerable parallels" between their lives.
U.S. District Court Judge Julie A. Robinson, chairwoman of the Judicial Conference Committee on Court Administration and Case Management, which issued the new guidelines, said in a statement?that while "the overwhelming majority of judges take steps to warn jurors not to use social media during trial," the judges who were surveyed said that "additional steps should be taken."
"The judges recommended that jurors frequently be reminded about the prohibition on social media before the trial, at the close of a case, at the end of each day before jurors return home, and other times, as appropriate. Jurors should be told why refraining from use of social media promotes a fair trial. Finally, jurors should know the consequences of violations during trial, such as mistrial and wasted time. Those recommendations are now part of the guidelines."

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 27, 2012) -- Refrigerating coal-plant emissions would reduce levels of dangerous chemicals that pour into the air -- including carbon dioxide by more than 90 percent -- at a cost of 25 percent efficiency, according to a simple math-driven formula designed by a team of University of Oregon physicists.
The computations for such a system, prepared on an electronic spreadsheet, appeared in Physical Review E, a journal of the American Physical Society.
In a separate, unpublished and preliminary economic analysis, the scientists argue that the "energy penalty" would raise electricity costs by about a quarter but also reap huge societal benefits through subsequent reductions of health-care and climate-change costs associated with burning coal. An energy penalty is the reduction of electricity available for sale to consumers if plants used the same amounts of coal to maintain electrical output while using a cryogenic cleanup.
"The cryogenic treatment of flue gasses from pulverized coal plant is possible, and I think affordable, especially with respect to the total societal costs of burning coal," said UO physicist Russell J. Donnelly, whose research team was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy for the work detailed in the published journal article.
"In the U.S., we have about 1,400 electric-generating unit powered by coal, operated at about 600 power plants," Donnelly said. That energy, he added, is sold at about 5.6 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to a 2006 Congressional Budget Office estimate. "The estimated health costs of burning coal in the U.S. are in the range of $150 billion to $380 billion, including 18,000-46,000 premature deaths, 540,000 asthma attacks, 13,000 emergency room visits and two million missed work or school days each year."
In their separate economic analysis, Donnelly and UO research assistant Robert E. Hershberger, also a co-author on the journal paper, estimate that implementing large-scale cryogenic systems into coal-fired plants would reduce overall costs to society by 38 percent through the sharp reduction of associated health-care and climate-change costs. Not in the equation, Donnelly said, are the front-end health-care costs involved in coal extraction through mining.
The cryogenic concept is not new. Donnelly experimented briefly in the 1960s with a paper mill in Springfield, Ore., to successfully remove odor-causing gasses filling the area around the plant using cryogenics. Subsequently the National Science Foundation funded a major study to capture sulfur dioxide emissions -- a contributor to acid rain -- from coal burning plants. The grant included a detailed engineering study by the Bechtel Corp. of San Francisco.
The Bechtel study showed that the cryogenic process would work very well, but noted that large quantities of carbon dioxide also would be condensed, a consequence that raised no concerns in 1978. "Today we recognize that carbon dioxide emissions are a leading contributor to climate-warming factors attributed to humans," Donnelly said.
Out came his previously published work on this concept, followed by a rigorous two-year project to recheck and update his thermodynamic calculations and compose "a spreadsheet-accessible" formula for potential use by industry. His earlier work on the cryogenic treatment of coal-plant emissions and natural gas sources had sparked widespread interest internationally.
While the required cooling machinery would be large -- potentially the size of a football stadium -- the cost for construction or retrofitting likely would not be dramatically larger than present systems that include scrubbers, which would no longer be necessary, Donnelly said. A cryogenic system would do better based on the conservatively produced computations by Donnelly's team -- capturing at least 98 percent of sulfur dioxide, virtually 100 percent of mercury and, in addition, 90 percent of carbon dioxide.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 27, 2012) -- Refrigerating coal-plant emissions would reduce levels of dangerous chemicals that pour into the air -- including carbon dioxide by more than 90 percent -- at a cost of 25 percent efficiency, according to a simple math-driven formula designed by a team of University of Oregon physicists.
The computations for such a system, prepared on an electronic spreadsheet, appeared in Physical Review E, a journal of the American Physical Society.
In a separate, unpublished and preliminary economic analysis, the scientists argue that the "energy penalty" would raise electricity costs by about a quarter but also reap huge societal benefits through subsequent reductions of health-care and climate-change costs associated with burning coal. An energy penalty is the reduction of electricity available for sale to consumers if plants used the same amounts of coal to maintain electrical output while using a cryogenic cleanup.
"The cryogenic treatment of flue gasses from pulverized coal plant is possible, and I think affordable, especially with respect to the total societal costs of burning coal," said UO physicist Russell J. Donnelly, whose research team was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy for the work detailed in the published journal article.
"In the U.S., we have about 1,400 electric-generating unit powered by coal, operated at about 600 power plants," Donnelly said. That energy, he added, is sold at about 5.6 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to a 2006 Congressional Budget Office estimate. "The estimated health costs of burning coal in the U.S. are in the range of $150 billion to $380 billion, including 18,000-46,000 premature deaths, 540,000 asthma attacks, 13,000 emergency room visits and two million missed work or school days each year."
In their separate economic analysis, Donnelly and UO research assistant Robert E. Hershberger, also a co-author on the journal paper, estimate that implementing large-scale cryogenic systems into coal-fired plants would reduce overall costs to society by 38 percent through the sharp reduction of associated health-care and climate-change costs. Not in the equation, Donnelly said, are the front-end health-care costs involved in coal extraction through mining.
The cryogenic concept is not new. Donnelly experimented briefly in the 1960s with a paper mill in Springfield, Ore., to successfully remove odor-causing gasses filling the area around the plant using cryogenics. Subsequently the National Science Foundation funded a major study to capture sulfur dioxide emissions -- a contributor to acid rain -- from coal burning plants. The grant included a detailed engineering study by the Bechtel Corp. of San Francisco.
The Bechtel study showed that the cryogenic process would work very well, but noted that large quantities of carbon dioxide also would be condensed, a consequence that raised no concerns in 1978. "Today we recognize that carbon dioxide emissions are a leading contributor to climate-warming factors attributed to humans," Donnelly said.
Out came his previously published work on this concept, followed by a rigorous two-year project to recheck and update his thermodynamic calculations and compose "a spreadsheet-accessible" formula for potential use by industry. His earlier work on the cryogenic treatment of coal-plant emissions and natural gas sources had sparked widespread interest internationally.
While the required cooling machinery would be large -- potentially the size of a football stadium -- the cost for construction or retrofitting likely would not be dramatically larger than present systems that include scrubbers, which would no longer be necessary, Donnelly said. The University won a Green Apple Environment Award for the arsenic-removal water cleansing project, which was carried out by the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering.
The School competed against more than 500 nominations to win this award in the international category. The award was for Dr Bhaskar Sen Gupta and his team's work in developing a method to remove arsenic from ground water without the use of chemicals, in the world's first low-cost arsenic removal plant in India.
Dr Sen Gupta said: "I am delighted we have been awarded this UK Industry Award as it is a great recognition for the work we have been carrying out into the removal of arsenic from groundwater without using chemicals.
"It recognises the team's hard work in tackling the world's worst case of ongoing mass poisoning. This solution overcomes arsenic contamination of groundwater and improves the quality of life in rural communities."
As a result of this success the University has been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their experience.
The Green Apple Award recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world.

YANGON (Reuters) - Myanmar President Thein Sein announced a long-awaited reshuffle of his cabinet on Monday that sees his top reformers moved into key ministerial posts and reassignments for remnants of the former military junta.
Ministers of Industry Minister Soe Thein, Minister of National Planning and Economic Development Tin Naing Thein and Rail Transportation Minister Aung Min - Thein Sein's closest allies - were given posts in the Office of the President, moves seen as efforts to bolster the fast-moving reforms in the post-military era.
The reshuffle of nine ministers, announced on state television, has been anticipated for months and is seen as a strong message of intent by Thein Sein, the former military heavyweight who has surprised the world by freeing more than 650 political prisoners, scrapping media censorship and introducing broad economic liberalization.
Two ministers believed to be close to retired junta strongman Than Shwe were assigned to less prominent ministries.
Aung Min's shift into the president's office frees him up to pursue complex political negotiations with at least 10 ethnic minority rebel groups with which the government has agreed ceasefires after decades of conflict during five decades of military rule.
As Industry Minister and chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission, Soe Thein, was seen as a integral part of efforts to set up special economic zones and attract foreign businesses to an impoverished and strategically-located country rich in oil, gas, timber and precious stones.
He will be joined by Finance Minister Hla Tun in Thein Sein's inner circle. The replacements for those who were promoted were not announced on Monday.
'ACTIVE, VIBRANT' CABINET
A member of the president's advisory board, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the media, told Reuters the reshuffle was intended to make the government "more active and vibrant".
"He's just sending the right men to the right places," he added.
A further 15 deputy ministerial posts were announced, which will see four more women in the top tiers of government and promotions for three of the president's closest advisors.
Labour Minister Aung Kyi, a U.S.-educated former general who served as the junta's representatives in talks with Aung San Suu Kyi during her stints of house arrest, will also head the Information Ministry overseeing media, which is now enjoying unprecedented freedom after decades of tight control.
He replaces Kyaw Hsan, who held the post for a decade and is believed to an ally of dictator Than Shwe, who relinquished power in March 2011 when Thein Sein's quasi-civilian government took office. Kyaw Hsan will become minister of cooperatives.
Tint Hsan, a businessmen who also was close to the junta leader, was relieved of one of his two posts. He will now handle only the sports portfolio and will be replaced as minister of Hotels and Tourism, sectors the government has targeted for expansion.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Champion at Wimbledon in both singles and doubles. Winner again at the All England Club in both events, four weeks later at the London Olympics.
Nobody would blame Serena Williams if she felt worn down by this year's jam-packed tennis calendar. She doesn't see it that way, though ? even with the grind of the U.S. Open looming.
"I look forward to this," Williams said. "It's almost as like a launching pad for what I want to do for the rest of the hard-court season."
In a way, yes, Monday's start of the year's last Grand Slam actually marks something of a new beginning ? the kickoff of a six-month stretch on the hard courts that winds down at the 2013 Australian Open.
Call it mental gymnastics, a creative way of looking at things or whatever else might apply. What can't be denied is that in an Olympic year, the U.S. Open ? considered the toughest test in tennis even under normal circumstances ? is essentially the season's fifth major.
"A lot of them," Jim Courier said, "are running on fumes."
Indeed, many top players have had to double down on their fitness and find new, creative ways of organizing their schedules to get ready for what they hope will be a two-week grind in the fishbowl that is Flushing Meadows.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic barely took any time off following his fourth-place finish at the Olympics. He traveled to Toronto for a hard-court tuneup, played six matches and won the tournament.
Then, he flew to Cincinnati, played six more matches but lost to Roger Federer in the final. No shame there, though that loss to Federer did include an uncharacteristic 6-0 whitewashing in the first set.
"Mentally, I wasn't there, wasn't fresh," Djokovic said. "It had been a very busy time starting at the Olympic Games, and maybe that caught up with me at the end."
No big deal in Cincinnati. But a half-hour mental lapse in New York could mean the end of Djokovic's quest to win what has, essentially, shaped up as the tiebreaker major for 2012.
Second-seeded Djokovic won the Australian Open. Rafael Nadal won the French Open. Top-seeded Federer won Wimbledon. Just for good measure, third-seeded Andy Murray won the Olympics, meaning the U.S. Open could essentially determine the player of the year in men's tennis.
Some combination of Nadal ? absent this year because of a knee injury ? and the other three have occupied every spot in the finals of the past eight Grand Slam tournaments.
Who has the most to gain over this fort night? John McEnroe thinks it's Murray, who has the Olympic gold, but is still in search of his first Grand Slam title.
"The way it pans out, it's conceivable that Murray could make an argument were he to win this ... that you could say he's the best player in the world this year," McEnroe said. "To me, that's an unbelievable upside."
Murray opens Monday in Arthur Ashe Stadium against Alex Bogomolov Jr., of Russia.
Federer, back at the top of the rankings after 25? months during which Nadal and Djokovic took the spot from him, has a night match Monday against American Donald Young, who is 3-21 this season.
Federer says there's a difference between how he feels now and last year, when he had two match points in the semifinals against Djokovic, but lost both and closed out his first full season since 2002 without a Grand Slam title.
"I think I felt good last year, but probably felt that maybe, at times, the matches were not always on my racket," he said. "Whereas maybe this time around, I feel like if I'm playing well, I can dictate who's going to win or lose."
Though the women's game has been more in flux than the men's of late ? seven different winners over the past seven Grand Slams ? the math is essentially the same in 2012: Three of the top four women ? No. 1 Victoria Azarenka (Australia), No. 3 Maria Sharapova (France) and No. 4 Williams (Wimbledon) ? have major titles this year and all need this one to break the tie.
Where things differ is in the way Williams has been playing of late. She lost a total of 17 games over six matches in the Olympics, punctuating it with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sharapova in the final ? the kind of drubbing that would have to come to mind if the two should meet in the U.S. Open final on Sept. 8.
Sharapova had two hard-court tune-up tournaments on her schedule, but pulled out of both with a stomach virus.
"I think it was a sign my body just needed to slow down," she said. "It was a lot of travel, a lot of playing. I had a hectic summer. So, I decided to shut it down until here, because we still have a lot to play towards the end of the year."
Kim Clijsters, on the other hand, doesn't have to save any energy for down the road. Win or lose, she says the U.S. Open will be it for her.
"Here," she said, while pointing to her heart. "You feel when it's right."
Clijsters has won her past 21 matches at Flushing Meadows. In 2005, she won the tournament. She didn't return again until 2009, after she had gotten married and had a daughter, Jada. With virtually no tournament play under her belt in 2009, Clijsters won seven matches to become the first unseeded woman to capture the U.S. Open.
Because of how busy 2012 has been, she'll do the same as Sharapova ? come into the U.S. Open not having played a competitive match since the Olympics.
Is this any way to prepare for her farewell?
"I remember 2009, I didn't have many matches, either," Clijsters said. "So I don't worry about that."
Two former law enforcement officials will serve time behind bars for a scheme to defraud an insurance company, and that stiff consequence is appropriate.
Kevin Guillot was a sergeant with the New Orleans Police Department when he filed a false claim with Progressive Insurance in June 2011 saying that his Ford F-250 had been stolen from a Jefferson Parish boat launch while he was out fishing.
His motive, according to a federal investigation, was to avoid paying for engine problems he was having with the truck. The plan was to claim something happened to the engine while the truck was out of his possession.
The scam proved far more costly than any repair bill. Mr. Guillot and his accomplice, Daniel Spears, who was then a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy, both lost their jobs and will now lose their freedom. Mr. Guillot was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sarah Vance to 11 months in prison, and Mr. Spears to six months. Mr. Guillot's nephew, Anthony Venezi, was sentenced to a year of probation for lying to officials to back up his uncle's story.
All three entered guilty pleas.
The damage was even more grievous for another accomplice, Salvadore Battaglia, who worked under Mr. Guillot at the NOPD. He filed a phony report saying that the truck had been recovered. He committed suicide shortly after news broke about the investigation.
Defrauding an insurance company is a serious crime in itself, but Mr. Guillot and Mr. Spears used their law enforcement positions to execute the scam. That's a betrayal of the public trust. Their sentencing should send a strong message that abuse of power will not be tolerated.
Duncan Mighty, the ?Port Harcourt First Son? crooner is one artiste that has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian entertainment industry; and most music pundits thought he is ripe for the international audience. But would such notion be said to be true after assessing his single with Jamaican A-list musician, Shaggy, many considered as a ?flop?, ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM writes.
He is not the first Nigerian artiste to go beyond the shores of Africa to widen his horizon and seek more fan base by collaborating with renowned superstars, especially now the world is a global village and music a unifying factor. The likes of D?banj and P-Square have toed the path before and had come out with great hits, making a statement that they are truly a star by their own right.
D?banj and his erstwhile partner Don Jazzy took the Nigerian and indeed African music fans by storm when he did a remix of his ?Mr. Endowed? with American superstar rap artiste, Snoop Dogg. Then came ?Oliver Twist? in which he featured one of the biggest name in the world of music Kanye West which received massive accolades and appreciation from fans across the globe.
P-Square took the Nigerian music industry by storm with a remix of ?Chop My Money?; a hit done with Senegalese-born US-based artiste Akon that received huge airplay across the country. And right after that was another remix with another A-list superstar, Rick Ross, in a song entitled ?Beautiful onyinye? that is still receiving regular airplay across the country.

BALTIMORE (AP) ? Eager to bolster an inexperienced pitching staff during their first playoff run since 1997, the Baltimore Orioles obtained left-hander Joe Saunders on Sunday in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Baltimore gave Arizona right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom and cash considerations or a player to be named later.
Saunders, who was scheduled to start Sunday against San Diego, was 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts with Arizona this season. He won 12 games last season while helping the Diamondbacks win their first NL West title since 2007.
Baltimore began the day tied for the second American League wild-card spot with Oakland and in third place in the AL East, only four games behind the division-leading New York Yankees.
"I like our ballclub's chances," said Dan Duquette, the Orioles vice president of baseball operations. "There's an old saying: If you're going in the right direction, keep walking. So the addition of Joe Saunders gives us a chance to keep walking in the right direction. And I think it gives us better balance against the left-handed lineups that we're going to be facing."
Saunders was born in nearby northern Virginia, played high school ball in Virginia and pitched at Virginia Tech before being drafted in the first round of the 2002 draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
"We've liked Joe Saunders for quite a while," Duquette said. "We had some discussions with him in the offseason. He's a local kid and a professional left-handed pitcher. He's won more than he's lost in the big leagues, he's pitched in the American League, he's pitched in the playoffs. He's pitched in a tough ballpark in Arizona."
The Orioles have only one left-hander in the bullpen and a rotation that includes rookies Miguel Gonzalez, Wei-Yin Chen and Steve Johnson.
"We just liked his experience, which I think compliments our starting rotation," Duquette said of Saunders. "And I also like the fact he's left-handed."
Saunders, 31, has pitched for the Angels and Diamondbacks since launching his big league career in 2005.
"I just like this addition of veteran left-handed depth to our staff," Duquette said. "It helps solidify the starting rotation while we're waiting for (injured) Jason Hammel to return. Then, if Jason Hammel does return, it gives us another good left-handed option because Joe Saunders is very good left-on-left. While we're waiting for (left-handed reliever Troy) Patton to come back, if we have several starters doing well, Joe gives us more depth and experience to our pitching staff."
Lindstrom went 1-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 34 appearances with the Orioles this season. He has held right-handers to a .207 average and scoreless in 10 of his past 11 outings.
Lindstrom has played six major league seasons with Miami, Houston, Colorado and Baltimore.
"He's another right-handed power arm. He's got some experience here in the West as well. We're pretty familiar with him, and you can see we like power arms in our bullpen, so he'll be a good addition," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.
Duquette believed Saunders would be more valuable to the Orioles than Lindstrom at this point in the season.
"Matt Lindstrom did a nice job for us. He contributed to the bullpen," Duquette said. "I just think the left-handed addition to our starting rotation and the capability to get more innings at a high level was better for the team at this stage of the season. And who knows? Joe Saunders is a local kid. Maybe he's with us beyond this year. That's something we can take a look at. It certainly strengthens us now."
To fill Lindstrom's place on the 25-man roster, the Orioles recalled right-hander Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta, Baltimore's opening day starter, went 3-9 with a 6.13 ERA in 18 starts with the Orioles before being optioned to Norfolk on July 5.
The Diamondbacks had talked about going to a six-man rotation so they could keep rookie Tyler Skaggs in the big leagues, but went in a different direction. With Saunders gone, Skaggs has his spot.
Arizona general manager Kevin Towers said the trade had a lot to do with the team's young pitching. Skaggs, Patrick Corbin and Wade Miley are all rookies, while Trevor Cahill and Ian Kennedy are the only ones left from the opening day rotation.
