larsen party: Family Reunion in Fullerton, CA

*Giant post ahead...you've been warned.

We had such a fun week! We usually all stay in a cabin here in Utah for our family reunion, but this year we stayed at my folks' house in Fullerton, CA and they offered to take us to a bunch of things down there. Sadly, Jordan's family wasn't able to make it since they were moving to Texas that week. We missed you guys!

Photobucket

On the road again // Penny entertaining herself in the car

On the way down, we stopped in Vegas we stopped to see our cousin Erin and her family. It had been too long!

Photobucket
Me, Erin and Lana with our baby girls // All the kidlets: Violet, Elsa, Penny, Max, Ethan, Brooke and Kevin

The day we arrived we just relaxed at the house...

Photobucket

My dad with the grandkids //?Penny on my dad's lap while he's on the ham radio
*I remember doing the exact same thing with my dad when I was little...some things never change. :)

On Sunday we took a walk after dinner to our favorite park...

Photobucket

Love this pic of my mom and Penny // Elsa and my dad on the slide

On Monday us girls got pedicures (one of my FAVORITE things ever) and that night we went to Medieval Times! I don't know why I enjoy this place so much, it's just so cheesy and fun.?Photobucket

Go red and yellow! // Waiting for the show to start

Photobucket

All the actors, I mean, knights lined up // Violet wasn't much impressed by the show

And the next day was the main event - Disneyland! I was a bit anxious about having to take two young kids to Disneyland for the first time, but it was actually really fun! Yes, it was hot and crowded, and sometimes the kids got whiny but we brought lots of snacks and water, re-applied sunscreen every hour and they were all right. We took turns staying off rides with Violet if she was asleep in her stroller, and my parents even watched the kids so us four adults could go on Tower of Terror since the line was so short. Penny was afraid of a few of the rides when they got "too scah-wee!" or "too darrrk!" but other than that I think she enjoyed her first Disneyland experience!

It was so busy and fun all day that I only took two pics. I know, what's wrong with me?? But it was nice to just enjoy it all, and not worry about documenting every little thing.

One pic in California Adventure...

Photobucket
And one pic in Disneyland. But these two are good enough, right?
Photobucket

The kids stayed until 6:00pm or so, and then we brought them home, fed them dinner, and we got to come back with Lana and Kris for a few more hours until the park closed at midnight. It was a fun little date all to ourselves! It felt just like when Lana and I had annual passes in high school and we'd go for a few hours after our homework was done. So fun!

The next day was beach day. Penny's doesn't really enjoy cold water or getting dirty, so she wasn't a big fan. She kind of got upset each time a wave came in, I mean, really, how rude of the ocean.
Photobucket
But she did enjoy sitting under an umbrella playing with toys and a bucket of water. We all find our niche, you know?
Photobucket
I just sat and took care of Violet and read magazines. That was my niche at the beach and I liked it.

On Thursday we got to meet up with our friend, Heather! It was fun to chat and catch up, and watch our kiddos play together.
Photobucket

Me and Heather // Max, Violet, Harvey, Elsa, Wendy
*Penny refused to come out of the toy room for the group picture, ha Photobucket

Later thay day, a quick snapshot of my high school // And lunch at my favorite Fullerton restaurant

For our last day we went to Irvine Regional Park, and there was a bunch of fun things to do there...

We rode a cute train around the park.

Photobucket

And took the toddlers on a pony ride, which they all LOVED. I thought Penny would be scared, but she was totally into it the whole time, waving each time she passed by us. It was so cute!

Photobucket Photobucket
The petting zoo was next, Penny loved chasing the goats around and combing their fur.
Photobucket
Paul and Penny on a paddle boat to end the day.
Photobucket

And the next day we drove home. And that's it! You made it through the longest blog post ever!

Thanks mom and dad for such a fun week!

Online Education ? Why Get One? ?

Everything is moving online. Shop, order food, watch television shows, stream music, and get an education while you are online. You may have heard about online courses but never taken the time to see what they are about. Many people are realizing how easy it is to get higher education online, such as bachelor?s and master?s degrees, and many are signing up.

What are the advantages of going online with education? Well, for one, it?s much cheaper than being on campus because it reduces fees you pay while on a university campus. Also, most universities offer online classes at a lower rate and will become cheaper as they become more popular and spots fill. Also, the other great advantage of online classes is being able to do course work from wherever you are. If you have a laptop, then you can access your education from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection. It?s revolutionizing the speed at which people become educated.

Convenience also translates to time and money. When education is convenient, it saves you time and hassle from finding a parking spot and attending class on a campus some where. Keep your valuable time by longing in to your class online and completing all necessary course work. When you save time, you save money. Not having to commute to school is a top reason to get an online education. Save money you would spend on transportation and use it to pay for the classes you take online. In every aspect, online classes save you time and money.

Most professionals who pursue master?s degrees are in the work force and don?t have time to stop working, go back to school and work for a degree. They need to continue in their field but also acquire a higher education. The only way to make this possible and convenient is to take classes online. When you leave work for the day, you can relax and regain energy and knock out assignments for class, all from the comfort of your home. In no time you will have a master?s for your field and hopefully receive a higher position and salary.

Are you starting to see the benefits of getting an online education? The numbers add up and they are all positive for you. Time, money and effort are all conserved and save for you to use in other areas of your life. Enjoy work and education at the same time.

Why consider getting an education online? Online education programs are convenient and save time and money. Start considering classes online today with the help of Southpoint ? http://seidegrees.com/

Nevada Republicans Respond to GOP Plank to Stop Online Gambling

A plank in the Republican platform, approved earlier this week at the party?s national convention in Tampa, Fla., calls for a ?prohibition? on Internet gaming and reversing December?s re-evaluation of the Federal Wire Act.

The language ? listed under the heading ?Making the Internet Family-Friendly? ? goes against the position taken by most of the gaming industry and of the state?s Republican elected leaders.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, who addressed the Republican Convention on Tuesday, said he doesn?t support the platform language.

?We?re not going to agree on everything,? Sandoval said. ?Nevada has always set the gold standard in gaming, and online gaming is the next frontier for the industry. Our state supports online poker and will continue to work to ensure a secure online gaming environment.?

Republican Sen. Dean Heller was campaigning in rural Nevada and unavailable for comment. Campaign spokeswoman Chandler Smith said, ?Regardless of any language contained in a document voted on back in Florida, Dean Heller will always do what is in the best interest of Nevada.?

Many of Nevada?s major casino companies are asking Congress to pass a bill that legalizes and regulates Internet poker nationally. Gaming experts believe Nevada could be the center of a regulated Internet gaming market.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson, who has donated more than $30 million to Republicans during the current election cycle, is the most prominent gaming executive to oppose legalizing Internet poker.

But this is not the first time the national GOP platform has included a plank against Internet gaming, although the wording was changed this year to mention the Federal Wire Act of 1961.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Dec. 23 reversed a 50-year-old interpretation of the Wire Act, saying the law covers only sports wagering. Legal experts said the decision frees individual states to let online operators offer poker and other casino games if the play doesn?t cross state lines.

?We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet and call for reversal of the Justice Department?s decision distorting the formerly accepted meaning of the Wire Act that could open the door to Internet betting,? the platform stated.

Authors of the platform plank linked Internet gaming with gambling addiction.

Internet poker proponents worry the official GOP stance could halt current legalization efforts in Congress, including a resolution authored by Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas.

?The 2012 GOP platform on Internet gambling is grossly out of touch with the opinions of the party?s own elected officials,? said John Pappas, executive director of the Washington D.C.-based Poker Players Alliance. ?Instead of broad political statements, now more than ever, Americans expect Congress to finally put the political posturing aside.?

American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., who has overseen the industry?s lobbying on Capitol Hill, declined to comment on the platform. Fahrenkopf was chairman of the Republican Party from 1983 to 1989.

Several observers said the platform is often ignored by candidates.

?We think the party?s manifesto is largely irrelevant,? Union Gaming Group Managing Director Bill Lerner said. ?Online gaming generally hasn?t been a partisan issue, although the dynamic has proved challenging in recent months.?

Marco Valerio, an online poker advocate who hosts poker-related programming on QuadJacks.com, cautioned listeners not to read too much into the platform language.

?The online gaming climate has changed so much in the last six years,? Valerio said. ?For one thing, online poker was largely friendless back then at virtually every level. Today you have much stronger support from big gaming and key legislators.?

In Washington, D.C., Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., agreed in July on a framework for legislation to regulate online poker. The bill would also strengthen laws prohibiting sports wagering and other traditional casino games on the Internet.

Reid said Republican votes were needed to push online legislation through Congress. He asked Heller to round up GOP support.

?Dean Heller is busy working with Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl and has had numerous conversations with other senators to communicate this concern, and figure out how to make regulated Internet poker, a game of skill, a reality,? spokeswoman Smith said.

Reid could not be reached for comment.

A Democratic aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, said GOP support for the Reid-Kyl bill is lacking, regardless of the platform. At least 15 Republican senators are needed to support the bill. So far, the only two firm yes votes are Kyl and Heller.

Mayor's $5K debt sent to collector

LAWRENCE ? The good news for Mayor William Lantigua is that the $25-a-day fine he?s been accumulating for failing to file campaign finance disclosure forms that were due Jan. 20 has maxed out at $5,000.

The bad news: Last week, a few days after the fines reached their limit, the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance turned the debt over to a private collection agency to force the mayor to pay up.

Lantigua did not return a phone call Friday seeking to learn his plan for paying the debt or filing the forms, which provide details about fund raising and spending by his campaign committee. In earlier published reports, Lantigua said he is withholding the forms until state officials tell him whether submitting them would affect an investigation by state Attorney General Martha Coakley into other alleged campaign finance irregularities by his committee.

Coakley is investigating allegations by OCPF that the Committee to Elect William Lantigua failed to maintain proper records, inaccurately reported expenses and revenues, collected contributions for public employees on the job and accepted contributions beyond the $500-a-year annual maximum.

OCPF spokesman Jason Tait would not comment on the defense Lantigua offered for failing to file campaign disclosure forms. But speaking generally, Tait said OCPF ?would always ask a candidate to file his or her report and would never say, ?Don?t file due to any outside reason.??

After sending Lantigua three warning notices, OCPF director Michael Sullivan in June asked Attorney General Coakley to order Lantigua to file the delinquent campaign finance forms.

Sullivan urged Coakley to take ?the strongest possible action? against Lantigua and a handful of other candidates ?who continue to ignore this statute and disregard the importance of compliance.?

Brad Puffer, a spokesman for Coakley, would not comment on whether his office is pursuing the case.

Although Lantigua was not on the ballot last year, he campaigned vigorously for his favored candidates for City Council and School Committee, including managing the campaign of City Council candidate Randy Jaime.

What the effort cost him won?t be known until his campaign committee files the financial disclosure forms that were due in January. The last disclosure form Lantigua filed 20 months ago showed his committee had $35,083 in the bank.

Although the forms are filed by candidates? campaign treasurers, Lantigua is personally responsible for the $25 fine for every day he fails to file the disclosure forms.

Lantigua switched treasurers in March 2011, replacing Lorenza Ortega, who was then his girlfriend and who he now says is his wife, with Ana Soto, his sister. Ortega, a City Hall secretary, held the post for 20 months in violation of a state law prohibiting appointed public employees from serving as campaign treasurers.

Lantigua is among 10 politicians OCPF turned over to Allen Daniel Associates, a Waltham collection agency, on Aug. 21, because of their failure to pay the fines that have been levied on them. The 10 include two others from Lawrence: former City Councilor Grisel Silva and former School Committee member Martina Cruz.

Dan Desatnick, president of the collection agency, said federal law prohibits him from discussing Lantigua?s debt, but said any collection effort generally begins with a phone call. He said his agency receives a standard 15 percent contingency fee from OCPF for debts it collects, and turns the debts it fails to collect back to OCPF.

Fed should ease to help economy: Fed's Williams

(Reuters) - Additional accommodation from the Federal Reserve would help boost the U.S. economic recovery and avoid a "stalling," a top central bank policymaker said on Friday.

San Francisco Fed President John Williams, on CNBC TV, said the Fed's two quantitative easing programs have had benefits and argued the Fed should be moving toward an "open-ended" QE3 in which the new program would not be limited by a dollar value.
